#91 Four demon myths BUSTED

Today, we are busting open demonic myths with four questions from listeners:

·      Do demons only come out at night?

·      Does the full moon empower demons and give them strength?

·      Is sunlight a deterrent to demons?

·      And the most interesting question of all – Can demons go into churches?

So, let’s get started with:

Do demons only come out at night?

This question I will have to say gets a resounding NO, even though nighttime has been associated with darkness, mystery, and fear, often perceived as a time when evil forces are most active. This association is likely because the darkness at night obscures your vision and heightens other senses, making people more susceptible to fear and exaggerated imaginations. Many traditional tales and religious texts describe demons as creatures of the night, preying on the vulnerable while they sleep and to a point, this is true because when we are asleep, our awareness is lower and they can get closer to us and sometimes into our dreams.

I have always been a light sleeper, I hear everything and feel the slightest touch from a spirit wanting help, touching my hair, my lips or eyelids… creepy, yep I know and I have set bedroom boundaries around this now… no touching!!! I get the occasional poke in the back or tug on my ankle or the doona by the darker energies if they are connected to a house-clearing job I am starting the next day. They try to frighten me off the job and I have to say it never works.

There are demonic magic entities summoned by practitioners to harm others and these guys are out day and night just like your freelancers. Energy beings of all denominations have no concept of day and night, they simply exist.

There are many interpretations of the word ‘demons’ as metaphors for psychological or emotional challenges that can arise at any time. For instance, in Christian theology, demonic influence is seen as a constant spiritual battle, not limited to nighttime. Similarly, in psychological contexts, “demons” can refer to internal conflicts or mental health issues that individuals face, irrespective of the hour. Therefore, while the imagery of demons coming out at night is powerful and does excite some, it is more just a traditional reflection of our fears.

Have you seen dark shadow figures, or wafting black shapes during the day, I know I have and so have some of my house healing clients.

Let’s look at: Does the full moon give demons strength?

The short answer is no, not from my observations and this is why… Their strength is a constant from my understanding. The moon’s energy affects our physical bodies but they don’t have a physical construct. The full moon has long been associated with supernatural occurrences and heightened magical mystical energy. In many traditions, the full moon is considered a time when the veil between the physical world and the spiritual realm is at its thinnest, allowing for increased activity from otherworldly beings, including spirits, dark and demonic entities. This belief is seen in stories of werewolves transforming under the full moon’s light, witches performing powerful rituals, and spirits becoming more active. The bright illumination of the full moon has often been thought of as a catalyst for unleashing hidden forces and enhancing the potency of supernatural entities.

But, in my opinion, this notion of the full moon empowering demons is really a fallacy and largely symbolic. It represents the human tendency to attribute natural phenomena to mystical or supernatural causes and don’t we all love to do that on the odd occasion? People love a bit of supernatural drama! Scientifically, the moon’s phases are a result of its position relative to the Earth and the Sun, with no inherent power to influence demonic activity, even though some people feel energised, and experience emotional or mental shifts evoking strong emotional responses. Also, many people experience disrupted sleep patterns and increasing anxiety, which may lead people to perceive an increase in supernatural activity.

While the full moon’s connection to demonic strength is a myth, it is more a reflection of human imagination and enhanced energetic reactions. I wonder though if people’s fear of demons gaining more strength on a full moon actually feeds the entity’s energy in fact enhancing their energy levels in some ways… food for thought.

Do you notice changes within yourself during the full moon week as I call it, I  notice sleep disturbances and sometimes elevated emotional responses, but not much else.

Time to delve into: Is sunlight a deterrent to demons?

The short answer again for this question is no, from my long-term observations of entities during the day and night, when I am at home or out and about in public places. I feel their presence, more than I see them. They do lurk in shadows because they know we expect them to be there to frighten you but they roam freely day and night.

Sunlight being a deterrent to demons is a concept deeply embedded in various religious traditions, mythologies, and folklore. Light, particularly sunlight, has been symbolically associated with the goodness, purity, and divine presence of God and its brilliance could vanquish all dark entities daring to show their faces, so they think… I wonder if this is just avoidance so they don’t have to think about or deal with dark entities. In many cultures, demons and malevolent spirits are thought to be creatures of darkness, thriving only in the absence of light. I do wonder when these entities hitchhike in people’s energy fields, does this shield them from the light? I don’t have an answer to that question… yet.

From a psychological perspective, sunlight has a significant impact on human mood and well-being, which contributes to the perception of it being an uplifting and protective force. Bright, sunny environments are less conducive to the fear and anxiety that often accompany thoughts of the supernatural. Additionally, practical aspects like increased visibility and bustling activity during daylight hours can make people feel safer and less vulnerable to unseen threats in the darkest of places. This got me thinking about when we are busy mostly working during the day, we don’t have time to ponder about the darkness and entities, but when we are quieter at night and our minds are stiller do we sense the presence of spirits and the darker entities because we are more alert to what can be luring in the shadows? People who work nights, do they see/ hear or sense entities when they are busy working? Ah, and now we are at my favourite question: Can demons enter churches?

This is a fascinating question and really does challenge many many people and I answer a great big YES and this is why…The question of whether demons can enter churches has been a topic of theological debate for centuries. We all know churches are considered sacred spaces consecrated by religious rituals and the presence of the divine God’s energy and the holiness of a church that acts as a protective barrier against demonic entities. This perspective is often supported by the use of blessed objects, such as crucifixes, holy water, and religious relics, which are believed to repel or weaken demonic presence. Historical accounts and religious texts frequently depict churches as places of refuge where individuals can seek protection from demonic attacks and spiritual warfare. I truly believe that people are more of a problem than your freelancing dark and demonic entities… people hurt people.

I have sat next to some questionable people with energetic attachments in churches over the years… a lot of people have them. Entity energy can exist in people, holy garments, statues, objects, furniture, the structure of places and the space within rooms and locations for days, weeks, years, decades and centuries sometimes.

I have read theological views online that agree with the fact that there is no absolute protection provided by churches. They (being clergy and pastors) discussed the fact that demons can infiltrate even the most sacred spaces when people, parishioners have a personal lack of faith or lack of faith in the congregation or the leadership of the church or unconfessed sins or even sometimes if the church leaders have false beliefs or other detrimental intentions bringing greed, ego, lusting or power and wealth into their churches. Priests and pastors are people too and we all struggle at times with temptation. In some people’s minds, the idea of demons entering sanctified lands and churches can also symbolize the broader struggle between good and evil in us all, highlighting that no place is entirely free from spiritual conflict.

What do you think… have I answered your undying questions about demonic presence among us?
